Hailing from Majorca, Spain is Capsule’s mind-melting pro team rider, Jaime Mateu. He embodies the concept of fear being only in one’s mind, and when we can conquer it, humans can do amazing things never thought possible and push the limits of skateboarding.
Jaime could probably do several of his massive tricks even if it was on a piece of driftwood with trucks nailed to it. Fortunately his new pro model just came out though, because when he’s blasting 10 feet or higher and landing flat-ground, or 15-20 feet into a bowl or small bank─it takes a special kind of board that can handle this type of punishment and doesn’t break.
Jaime is a regular at some of Europe and America’s most legendary skate contests and street spots or parks, including Tampa Pro, Simple Session, Mystic Cup, Munich Mash, FISE and others.
As Jaime worked with the graphic artist to come up with his new board design, it was clear that his “tiger eating a lion” idea was going to turn out as unique as his skating. At every contest we’ve seen Jaime participate in, he literally wins the hearts of fans and steals the show. The end result on this graphic is no different.
The Capsule designer working with Jaime adds, “As I listened to Jaime say the starting point was going to be a tiger eating a lion, I thought, uhh, okay. I’ve never heard of that but why not? I wondered, isn’t it the lion who should be eating the tiger? But Jaime defies the odds, and lives to dethrone any king of the jungle.”
“Seeing the initial concepts got Jaime’s wheels turning and there was a moment where I wondered if we were going to pull off all his suggestions like, “Put them walking through a jungle…That’s on fire! And I want a huge full moon in the sky at night. And put in some monkeys swinging through the jungle up in the trees!”
